Elvira Symanyuk has a doctoral degree in Psychology. She is Professor, Professor of the Russian Academy of Education, Head of the Department of General and Social Psychology at Ural Federal University. Dr. Symanyuk is one of the leading experts in the areas of pedagogical psychology and psychology of professional development and the founder of the successful scientific school at Ural Federal University.
Dr. Symanyuk is the pioneer in modelling teachers’ professional crises. She deals with both normative and non-normative crises, the role of the teacher as a facilitator, personalized technologies, psychological barriers and destruction, as well as professional satisfaction. Dr. Symanyuk builds her research on various approaches – sociological, psychological, medical, etc. She not only studies but also applies these practices. In cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Youth Policy of the Sverdlovsk Region Dr. Symanyuk regularly provides trainings in motivation for professional development and building psychologically safe environment to prevent burnout.
The research carried out by Dr. Symanyuk has been supported by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, the Russian Foundation for Humanities and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research. She is the Head of the Ural NeuroNet Center, one of the top ten leading centers of that kind in Russia. The results of the research have been presented at various conferences in Russia and abroad.
Dr. Symanyuk is an organizer of a number of Russian and international fora that deals with various issues on the agenda of psychology. Among them are the Cognitive Neuroscience Forum (2018, 2019, 2020, Yekaterinburg), the All-Russian Conference “Complex Rehabilitation and Abilitation of People with Disabilities: Psychological and Pedagogical Problems” (Yekaterinburg, 2019).
In 2016, Dr. Symanyuk was involved in the establishment of the Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Education in the Urals Federal District. Under her leadership the Center has been carrying out a number of ambitious enlightenment, methodology and research projects. At the moment the Center coordinates efforts of regional educational and scientific institutions at different levels enabling them to achieve their scientific, educational and innovative potential. She has long been a contributor to the development of cooperation between the Russian Academy of Education and all regional entities. The project is supported by the Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of Russia in the Urals Federal District.
Dr. Symanyuk is the author of 5 monographs, 27 subject guides and more than 260 papers. 92 of them are published in journals included in the Higher Attestation Commission List and 159 of them - in the Russian Science Citation Index. The works are of high citation impact (5818 citations; h-index – 20). She is among top 100 most cited scientists in psychology (71st position) and pedagogy (3rd position) in the Russian Science Citation Index (as for March 1, 2021). For the last 5 years, Dr. Symanyuk published 17 Scopus and 23 Web of Science papers. She is also a member of the Editorial Boards of a number of influential journals. These are “Education and Science” (Scopus, WoS), “Psychology: Critical Historical Reviews and Contemporary Studies” (Higher Attestation Commission), “Pedagogical Education in Russia” (Higher Attestation Commission), “Lurian Journal” and “Professional Education and Labour Market”.
Dr. Symanyuk’s research and practice are incorporated into teaching. She teaches the following coursers: “Psychology of Teachers’ Professional Destruction”, “Social Psychology”, “Problems of Psychology”, “Pedagogical Psychology”, “Adult Psychology”, “Conflictology”, “Research Methodology and Methods, “Quantitative and Qualitative Methods in Psychology”, “Psychology of Stress”, etc.
12 PhD candidates successfully defended their theses written under the supervision of Dr. Symanyuk. She is also a member of Dissertation Councils on Theory, Methodology and History of Sociology; Sociology of Culture; Social Structure, Social Institutions and Processes; General Psychology, Personality Psychology and History of Psychology; Pedagogical Psychology.
Dr. Symanyuk acts as an independent expert certifying officials of the Ministry of Education and Youth Policy of the Sverdlovsk Region. Sinсe 2019, she has been a member of the Expert Council on Educational Organizations under the Ministry of Higher Education of the Russian Federation. She is actively engaged with the scientific community. Since 2000, she has been a member of the Russian Psychological Community. As a member of the Ural branch of the Community Dr. Symanyuk she has been involved in the expertise of the draft Federal Law on psychological activity. She has also been an acting member of the United Academic Board on Humanities under the Ural branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences since 2017.
Dr. Symanyuk is the recipient of numerous awards and honors. Her scientific, educational and administrative efforts have been acknowledged by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. In 2014, she was named the Professor of the Year in Psychopedagogy by the Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region. Dr. Symanyuk was awarded the title “Honored Worker in the Sphere of Education in the Russian Federation” in 2019. The following year the Russian Academy of Education awarded her the title “Honored Worker of Education”. All the awards and honors speak to the recognition of Dr. Symanyuk’s success over the years.
