Historical and cultural heritage plays an important role in a modernizing society: heritage has a massive impact on the development of the real economy (services sector, experience economy) and on the evolution of the discourse of wellbeing. Like other important social phenomena, heritage has been affected by digitalization as digital tools have proven to be crucial in today’s efforts towards the conservation, study and promotion of cultural and historical resources. Not only does the digital environment offers new opportunities for creating and reconstructing heritage but it also engenders a wide range of new products, services and infrastructures, which have a direct impact on people's wellbeing. These include, for example, gaming and entertainment products, educational products, aesthetic products and status goods. Digitalization leads to the expansion of the very notion of historical and cultural heritage and helps create cultural values and invest urban spaces with new meanings. The subproject led by Konstantin Bugrov will be focusing on this bidirectional process (the use of historical and cultural heritage to develop the digital environment/creation of new cultural objects and values with the help of digital technologies).
