All the Erasmus + Project N 575043-EPP-1-2016-1-RU-EPPJMO-CHAIR "EU Regionalism and Foreign Policy" WG members participate in both Russian and foreign conferences building the communication network with EU studies centers in Russia and abroad, disseminating results of the Project, and making them visible.

The 2019 conference "European regionalism: theories and practice" proceedings were published in UrfU. As it was announced earlier, Jean Monnet Chair team, headed by prof V.I. Mikhaylenko, won the grant of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research for financing of the conference and the publication of proceedings. The full text of the book can be found here:

Summer School "EU Regionalism and Foreign Policy" took place in UrFU on July 1 - 5. It was organised by Jean Monnet Chair team, headed by prof. V.I. Mikhaylenko. The school gathered 20 young teachers, research fellows, PhD and graduate students from Ekaterinburg, Moscow, St Petersburg, Izhevsk, Tomsk Yoshkar Ola and Perm, as well as from abroad - from Uzbekistan. The programme contained lectures and round tables. The lectures were given by UrFU Jean Monnet Chair teaching staff and by external experts from MGIMO, St Petersburg University,Tomsk State University and Romania. The programme featured such topics as EU global strategy, EU regionalism, EU - Greater Eurasia interaction, EU - Belt and Road interaction, EU - Latin America interaction, economic cooperation between Sverdlovsk region and its external partners in Europe, EU and Brexit, and others. All participants were awarded official certificates on the School completion.

On June 25th Valery Mikhaylenko gave an open lecture on Russia-EU relations in Yeltsin Center. The lecture was organised in the framework of an event on the 25th anniversary of the bilateral Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation. Jean Monnet Project’s Participant Ekaterina Mikhaylenko participated in the international practical conference "Environmental and technological aspects of monitoring and perception of forests in a changing climate", which was held from 5 to 7 June 2019 in Volga State University of Technology, Yoshkar-Ola, Mari El Republic, Russia. Ekaterina Mikhaylenko participated in the panel " J. Monnet Center of Excellence. EU-Russia: International Cooperation in the Field of Education and Project Activities ”with the report “The Environmental and Social Dimension of Nuclear Security: Experience of the TEMPUS and Erasmus+ Projects ”. The section also included a round table on the implementation of Erasmus+ projects in Russian universities.
On May 21st the Department of Theory and History of International Relations invited the head of Ural Centre for shared use “Modern Nanotechnology”, prof. V. Ya. Shur to give an open lecture “Cooperation between UrFU and EU centres in the area of hi-tech research”. The event was organised by the team of Jean Monnet Chair (project number 575043-EPP-1-2016-1-RU-EPPJMO-CHAIR). Prof. V. Ya. Shur gave a detailed overview of the ties between Ural Federal University and its partners in EU countries. On the whole, both sides – Russian and European – are interested in this cooperation, and it is continuing, regardless any external factors. A long-term positive experience is a good basis, and European colleagues remain key and reliable partners for Russian side. In addition, prof. Shur also presented his experience of participation in ERASMUS+ 2014–2020 International Credit Mobility programme.
The team of Jean Monnet Chair in UrFU organised a section on European studies during the Youth Convention of Ural Federal University (https://urgi.urfu.ru/ru/youth-konvention/). It is one of the events, providing Russian co-financing of the project 575043-EPP-1-2016-1-RU-EPPJMO-CHAIR of ERASMUS + European Union programme.
The section included the presentations of 19 participants (undergraduate, graduate and PhD students from Yekaterinburg and Yoshkar-Ola, and from several universities of Kazakhstan), with reports on such topics as Russia – EU relations (Russia – Poland ties, Russia – EU energy diplomacy), EU relations with the rest of the world (France – Senegal relations, Chinese investment in Great Britain, European participation in “Belt and Road Initiative”, EU – Central Asia relations, EU – Kazakhstan relations, EU strategy towards Iran and JCPOA, Hungary – Ukraine relations), and EU domestic issues, such as Brexit, PESCO, France’s climatic policy, Spain’s soft power, European approaches towards urban mobility, gender policies, youth policy and economic clusters.

On March 18th UrFU Department of Theory and History of International Relations and Jean Monnet Chair organised the open lecture of Boris Guseletov – one of the leading researchers in European studies in Russia, senior research fellow of Institute of Europe of Russian Academy of Sciences. The topic of the lecture was “European elections – 2019 in the conditions of globalisation”. The lecture gathered interested listeners, mainly students and teachers. It was a part of the open lecture series in the framework of Jean Monnet Chair project 575043-EPP-1-2016-1-RU-EPPJMO-CHAIR, supported by ERASMUS + European Union programme.
International conference “European regionalism: theories and practice” took place in UrFU, Ekaterinburg on 18 – 19 March. It was organised by the Department of Theory and History of International Relations and Jean Monnet Chair. The conference became one of events, providing Russian co-financing of the project 575043-EPP-1-2016-1-RU-EPPJMO-CHAIR of ERASMUS + European Union programme. It was financed by UrFU and by Russian Foundation of Basic Research (RFBR), as the team, leaded by Valery Mikhaylenko, won the RFBR grant № 19-014-20010.
The conference was aimed at discussion and exchange of opinions on the studies of theory and practice of European regionalism, European and Eurasian integration at current stage. It featured the participation and reports of researchers from all over Russia (Ekaterinburg, Moscow, St Petersburg, Kazan, Ioshkar-Ola, Omsk, Tomsk, Irkutsk), contributing to the establishment of Russian EU-related research community, as well as from Italy, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Algeria and other countries.
In addition to plenary session, there were six special sessions organised: “Theoretical aspects of European regionalism”, “Is the new <st1:place w:st="on">Europe</st1:place> possible? The EU after Brexit”, “Dynamics of the EU global strategy”, “EU and the Greater Eurasia”, “EU internal regional policy: territorial and economic clusters” and “European regionalism: the view of younger generation”. On the whole, the number of participants, who presented their reports, reached 114 and included experienced and young researchers, diplomatic and civil servants. Moreover, all sessions were open to public and gained considerable attention from teachers and students of UrFU and other Ekaterinburg universities.

The Department of Theory and History of International Relations of Ural Federal University (Yekaterinburg, Russia) is pleased to invite speakers to the conference «European regionalism: theories and practice» on March 18th – 19th, 2019. The conference is scheduled in the framework of UrFU co-financing of the project «Jean Monnet Chair», agreement 575043-EPP-1-2016-1-RU-EPPJMO-CHAIR of the European Union ERASMUS+ programme.
On 25 of October 2018 the Centre for Foreign Policy and Security Studies organized the round table with Professor John Mearsheimer's in Oradea and then in Bucharest, Romania. Professor John F. Mearsheimer delivered a very insightful and thought provoking lecture on the future of US foreign policy in the age of Trump. The event was followed by a Q&A session with foreign and Romanian academics, who both praised and grilled John's lifelong work and contribution to the study of International Relations. Ekaterina Mikhaylenko participated in the events on the behalf of the Ural Federal University in Oradea and got possibility to ask questions on the future of the global world order and role of EU and small countries.
Ekaterina Mikhaylenko visited Romania in the framework of Erasmus+ program. During the visit associate professor E. Mikhaylenko met colleagues from Center for European Studies (Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of IASI) and initiated the bilateral agreement between UrFU and Oradea University in the framework of Erasmus+ Programs.
This international conference is about regional and intra-regional challenges to multilateralism and global governance. The presentations in the conference were devoted to the study the on-going changes in the regional, intra-regional, and global dynamics of cooperation (https://events.uta.fi/pluralistworld2018/).
The main topics of the conference addressing one or more of the following questions:
Associate Professor E. Mikhaylenko presented the paper «Coping with the changing World Order: the case of Russia» which was done together with MA student Igor Adami. The paper was presented as a part of Jean Monnet program (project number 575043-EPP — 1 2016-1-RU-EPPJMO-CHAIR) and is devoted to the practice of use European and non-European regional approaches for construction of Greater Eurasian Partnership (https://www.lyyti.fi/e/?p=s&k=9d467f7009c9e6e26bB4645F)
E. Mikhaylenko has become the member of the project, which was initiated by Tampere University «Regional Challenges to Multilateralism» (http://www.uta.fi/yky/en/research/conferenciesandseminars/pluralistworld/about.html) and was invited to become a co-author in a common book project.
Member of Jean Monnet Chair teaching staff Ksenia Muratshina and PhD student Natalia Leskina took part in international conference "Youth of Europe and Russia. Europe and EU in views of academics", which was held in Tomsk State University by Tomsk Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence. They presented their research on the topic "European space of higher education: cooperation and opportunities for adaptation at the post-Soviet space, in East Asia and other regions".
The report was included in the book - a collection of articles (elibrary.ru/item.asp). In the course of the conference, the exchange of views and experience was held, as well as the discussion about how Jean Monnet programmes of research and education courses are implied in different regions of Russia.
On April 20 - 21 Jean Monnet Chair of Ural Federal University under the guidance of professor Valery Mikhaylenko organised an international conference "European Interregionalism and Greater Eurasia". The conference celebrated participants, who are conducting EU-related and international integration-related research, from Ekaterinburg, Moscow, St Petersburg, Tomsk and other cities, as well as from Kazakhstan, Romania, China and Thailand. The sessions were open to students and general public. The full versions of the most discussed reports will be published as papers in Proceedings of Ural Federal University.
The collective monograph "Asymmetries of regional integration projects" has been issued by Ural Federal University Publishing House. The research has been conducted by authors from UrFU and abroad and is a part of regionalism studies, carried out by the team of Jean Monnet Chair. The chief editor of the monograph is professor Valery I. Mikhaylenko.
The collective monograph contains the results of the research on a variety of global, regional and sub-regional integration processes in contemporary world. The research demonstrates that regions and regionalism are pivotal for the global agenda today (the so-called “world of regions”). The concept of regions cannot be limited to a single pattern, as they are characterized by diversity and asymmetry of institutions, objectives, organizational models. The research also displays the diversity of theoretical solutions in this field.

Associate Prof. Ekaterina Mikhaylenko, Erasmus + Project N 575043-EPP-1-2016-1-RU-EPPJMO-CHAIR "EU Regionalism and Foreign Policy" WG member, participated in the international conference “European security: searching for a common response to mutual threats and challenges”, organized by the Institute of European studies of Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow, on 28 November 2016. Leading Russian and foreign experts took part in the conference to discuss a whole host of European Security issues.

Winter Academy 2017 «Russia and the EU: In search of a new structure for relations» took place in Berlin, Germany, on February 20-25, 2017. The event was organized by Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and the Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Erasmus + Project N 575043-EPP-1-2016-1-RU-EPPJMO-CHAIR "EU Regionalism and Foreign Policy" secretary Assistant Ekaterina Lapanovich was among participants.
The experts of Winter Academy 2017 were Dr. Tatiana Parkhalina, Deputy Director, Institute of Scientific Information for Social Sciences Russian Academy of Sciences (INION RAS); Claudia Crawford, Head of Representation, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Moscow; Wolfgang Richter, Col. (ret.), Senior Associate, Research Division International Security, German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), Berlin ; Dr. Andrey Zagorsky, Head of the Department for Disarmament and Conflict Resolution Studies of the Center for International Security at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IMEMO), Moscow end other prominent figures in European Security Studies.
Erasmus + Project N 575043-EPP-1-2016-1-RU-EPPJMO-CHAIR "EU Regionalism and Foreign Policy" WG members Prof. Valery Mikhaylenko and Associate Prof. Aleksandr Burnasov delivered lectures within the scope of open lectures series on EU studies marking the 25th anniversary of The Association of European Studies on March 17 - 27, 2017, UrFU.
Associate Prof. Aleksandr Burnasov spoke on specific features of cargo traffic between the EU and Russia while Prof. Valery Mikhaylenko and Associate Prof. Ekaterina Mikhaylenko gave lecture on European interregionalism.

Erasmus + Project N 575043-EPP-1-2016-1-RU-EPPJMO-CHAIR "EU Regionalism and Foreign Policy" WG members organized a roundtable discussion "Greater Europe: New Agenda" which took place at UrFU on April 7, 2017, featuring not only the EU – Russia relations, but also EU regionalism, the Brexit consequences, EU and the crisis of global governance, EU-China relations, EU institutional development, culture policy and educational cooperation, as well as EU-NATO interaction, EU in the system of global transport and various security aspects. The event was widely announced and involved not only senior teaching staff, but also young researchers, students, and was open to all University employees and general public.

ISPS Youth Convention took place at UrFU on April 28-29, 2017. The purpose of the event was to discuss key issues of the development of the European civilization – European identity, ethnic and cultural diversity against the background of a changing Europe, and geopolitical interests.

Erasmus + Project N 575043-EPP-1-2016-1-RU-EPPJMO-CHAIR "EU Regionalism and Foreign Policy" Chair holder Prof. Valery Mikhaylenko supervised the project work of the 3rd year Bachelor students devoted to EU Foreign and Security Policy “Shared Vision, Common Action: A Stronger Europe. A Global Strategy for the European Union’s Foreign and Security Policy”.
The Gallery Walk within the scope of Fundamentals of International Security and Conflict Resolution course took place on May 22, 2017.
