In July, Ural Institute of Humanities hosted the first Japanese Language Proficiency Test in Yekaterinburg.
The organizers were the Japan Foundation supervised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan; the Embassy of Japan in the Russian Federation; UrIH’s Department of Oriental Studies and the Sverdlovsk branch of the Russia-Japan Foundation headed by Vadim Zanin.
UrIH was not chosen at random by the Japanese side. For more than 20 years, UrIH’s Department of Oriental Studies has been the alma mater of specialists on Japan. Moreover, annually more than 300 people learn Japanese in language centers in Yekaterinburg.
There were more than 206 registrations for the exam. Among those registered were people from not only the Sverdlovsk region but also Omsk, Perm, Tatarstan, Krasnoyarsk, Chelyabinsk, Hanty-Mansiysk, Novosibirsk, Zabaykalsk, etc.
The event has once again confirmed Ural Institute of Humanities’ being one of the leading educational centers in the field of oriental studies in Russia. The following session will be held in July 2022.
