Sergey Sokolov spoke about a new direction in the humanities
A team of historians from the Ural Federal University, using digital technologies, has recreated various periods from the history of Yekaterinburg. Such reconstructions make a significant contribution to science and are useful for students and all those who are interested in history. Sergei Sokolov, Head of the Department of Russian History at Ural Federal University, spoke about this on the radio «Komsomolskaya Pravda».
Philologists create databases of UrFU folklore and toponymic archives, which are planned to be placed on the site in the future. The bases will make Ural folklore texts, collected over 70 years of expeditionary work of our scientists, more accessible. Historians create interactive maps, games, and other projects.
In addition, with the support of a grant from the Potanin Foundation, the Faculty of History launched the master's program «Digital History». Her students work on projects in the digital environment. For example, above the site dedicated to the history of the Youth Palace and the virtual museum of Uralmashzavod.
Digital technologies are also actively used in museums, the historian adds. For example, in the multimedia historical park «Russia is my history», where Sergey Sokolov and his colleagues worked on content on the history of the Sverdlovsk region. In addition, together with the Museum of the History of Yekaterinburg, Digital History students created a website(https://ekb89.ru/) with the reconstruction of quarter 89 in the Turgenev-Lenin-Karl-Liebknecht-Pervomayskaya square.
Note that such projects are extremely labor-intensive. Their implementation requires funds, time, a whole team of different specialists: historians, designers, architects, programmers.
